LITTLE HIMALAYAN LIBRARY PROJECT

Allowing children the freedom to realize their dreams.

We found that only 13.9% women in remote Himalayan villages have completed their primary education, citing issues of accessibility to schools and educational institutes. This has a domino effect on declining labor force participation and other social development indicators.

Rural Himalayan children have to sometimes travel for hours to access their classrooms, often deterring them from  carrying heavy books back home from school. To make books more accessible and cultivate reading, HET has been on a mission to set up libraries in village-level community centers.

  1. It supports cognitive development and improves imagination and creativity among children, setting them on a path of professional success.

  2. It improves language skills along with increasing concentration and supporting overall professional development.
